Heart Health
Given today’s typical dietary habits, finding additional sources of Omega-3s is more important than ever. To help offset that negative dietary trend, Mila ® contains the perfect ratio of 3:1 (3 Omega—3s to 1 Omega-6), all of which makes Mila essential for maintaining a healthy heart. Mila has a vasodilatory effect by increasing the size of the arteries and can play a role in lowering blood pressure.
Research from the National Institutes of Health investigated the benefits of chia seed (Salvia hispanica L.), which is rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) and fiber, and found it had a beneficial effect on lowering cholesterol levels.
The NIH also studied whether chia seeds reduced the metabolic, cardiovascular and hepatic signs of a high-carbohydrate, high-fat diet and found that chia seeds, as a source of alpha-linolenic acid, induce lipid redistribution associated with cardioprotection and hepatoprotection —the ability to prevent damage to the liver.
Arthritis Inflammation
In a March, 2012 study at Boston University, researchers set out to assess the links between a person’s levels of omega-3 and omega-6 and their risk of synovitis which occurs when the membrane lining the joint becomes inflamed and is usually present in osteoarthritis of the knee.
The levels of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in a person’s blood appear to be associated with synovitis, the study has found. The researchers discovered that the lower a person’s omega-3 levels, the greater their degree of patellofemoral cartilage loss. Meanwhile, the higher a person’s omega-6 levels, the greater their chances of having synovitis. Omega-3 fatty acids are known to have anti-inflammatory effects, while omega-6 fatty acids tend to promote inflammation.
The study authors wrote: “In conclusion, systemic levels of omega-3 and omega-6 PUFAs (polyunsaturated fatty acids), which are influenced by diet, may be related to selected structural findings in knees with or at risk of osteoarthritis.
Anti-Aging
Did you know that every ninety days your body regenerates nearly all of its seven to ten trillion cells? Aging happens when damaged cells are replicated in this process such as free-radicals. When healthy, stronger, smoother elastic cells are properly regenerated, the aging process is slowed.
The anti-oxidants in Mila:
- Fight and neutralize free radical damage
- Flush out age—accelerating toxins
- Elasticize skin
- Enhance hair, skin, and nails
- Lubricate joints
- Reduce muscle soreness and speeds rejuvenation
- Lower lactic acid buildup in muscles
- Regain youthful exuberance
Weight Loss
Mila is so nutrient-dense that the equivalent nutrients can only be acquired by consuming an amount of food that represents approximately 6 times the calories of Mila. For example, consuming 3 oz. of Mila results in about 6 times fewer calories from the best combined sources of the same nutrient. In addition, Mila’s exceptionally high level of Tryptophan (an amino acid that suppresses appetite) may relieve hunger pangs.
Ask any good dietician what to do for weight loss and one thing they will usually say is increase the amount of fiber in your diet. Fiber before a meal can help curb your appetite by giving you the sense of being full.
Mila is high in protein. Protein can be beneficial in any weight loss program by providing a great energy source and helping assure you keep your muscle mass while burning off fat. If you starve yourself, the body will use your own muscle as energy and you will not only lose fat but also muscle. Muscle is where your metabolism occurs so losing muscle may lead to decreased metabolism over time.
Blood Sugar
Studies show that eating chia seeds slows down how fast our bodies convert carbohydrate calories into simple sugars. This leads researchers to believe that the chia seed may have great benefits for diabetics . By balancing your blood sugar, you will have fewer energy drops and cravings for refined foods. Maintaining blood sugar levels is critical for those with both hyper (high) and hypo (low) blood sugar.
ADHD
Processed sugars and carbohydrates may have an effect on a child’s activity level. That’s because these compounds produce a rapid increase in blood glucose levels. They do this by entering the bloodstream quickly. This blood sugar spike may produce an adrenaline rush that could cause a child to become more active. Then, decreased activity and even mood swings may be noted as the adrenaline levels fall.
According to the American Counseling Association, many children that are taking stimulants for ADHA may have suppressed appetites, therefore, it’s very important for the parents to monitor their food intake and the nutritional value of their diets. Controlling blood sugar levels and providing a natural source of protein, fiber and nutrients by using Lifemax Mila could result in profound changes to your child’s health.
Depression
Research has shown that the omega-3 fatty acids found in chia seeds are beneficial for mood disorders including depression. Chia seeds have helped some people alleviate the symptoms of depression significantly. According to the Mayo Clinic, eating a diet rich in omega-3s may help ease depression, especially when used in addition to standard depression treatments.
Alzheimer’s
Researchers from Columbia University Medical Center found that eating a diet high in omega-3 fatty acids resulted in lower levels of of beta-amyloid protein, which is linked with Alzheimer’s disease.
The 2012 study, published in the journal Neurology, included 1,219 people age 65 and older who didn’t have dementia. The researchers tracked what they ate for 1.2 years — including their intake of nutrients like omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, vitamins E, C, D and B12, and beta-carotene. At the end of the period, their blood was tested for beta-amyloid protein.
The researchers found that the higher the consumption of the omega-3 fatty acids, the lower the beta-amyloid in the blood.
Gastro-Intestinal Health
Mila is also a hydrophilic colloid–a mixture of particles which absorb a certain quantity of the fluid in which they are suspended. This important property aids in the digestion of food and helps control excess acids associated with indigestion, heartburn, and sour stomach. Mila’s unique soluble fiber content, combined with its hydrophilic colloidal properties, make a gel in the stomach that creates a physical barrier “lining” the stomach.
Fiber is critical for healthy digestion. We need to consume 26+ grams of fiber per day and if it doesn’t come from your food you must supplement. With Mila, one 13 gram serving can give you about 1/5 of your daily needs. Dr. Bob Arnot uses 4 servings of Mila each day to keep his body performing at its best.
Many people suffer from constipation and fiber plays an important role to eliminate toxins as it increases bowel moments and eliminate debris out of your system to create a healthier and more optimal and energy fueled system. Keeping your digestive system clean of toxins can provide you with overall well-being and proper weight management for a healthier and leaner you!
Bone Health
Per serving, Mila contains six times more calcium than milk. Mila is also a rich source of other essential minerals like phosphorous, magnesium, and iron, all of which aid in the absorption and utilization of calcium by the body.
Getting your minerals and vitamins from a food source is your healthiest lifestyle choice. You get better digestion, absorption and retention when they come from food vs. synthetic. A recent study showed that women who consumed calcium from food sources in their everyday diet had better bone health than those who took most of their calcium from supplements. The recent medical trend to remove dairy products from diets makes Mila a sensible choice.
Breast Health
Preliminary research at the University of California, Los Angeles suggests that Omega-3s may help maintain healthy breast tissue.
The National Institutes of Health reports a 2007 study on the effect of Chia on the infiltration in a murine mammary gland adenocarcinoma showed that ChO, Salvia hispanica , an ancient and almost unknown source of omega-3, inhibits growth and metastasis in this tumor model.

A March 2012 article posted in the Journal of Clinical Oncology , “Omega-3 Fats Tied to Less Cancer-Related Fatigue”, cited a study done by the U.S. National Cancer Institute on the role that chronic inflammation plays in causing cancer-related fatigue (CRF). Researchers believe that the ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 in the diet could not only lead to less inflammation, but for cancer survivors in particular, less fatigue. Although further studies need to be done to determine how extensive the link between inflammation and CRF is, there is no doubt that the two share a relationship, one that has a potential treatment.
Prostate Health
Numerous studies show that diets high in Omega-3s and fiber may help maintain a healthy prostate. Mila, with its high Omega-3 and fiber content, is an easy and simple way to include these necessary nutritional benefits into your daily diet.
Prenatal Health
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported that Omega-3s are very important in nourishing the developing brain of a baby and maintaining the mental health of the mother. Mila also contains essential amino acids, phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals, including folic acid, all of which are extremely important in fetal development.
Menopause
Mila, with its high Omega—3 content, may enhance and balance hormones. Mila may also help reduce hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause and as well as help maintain a positive mental outlook.
The National Institutes of Health noted in a randomized clinical trial that supplementation with E-EPA, omega-3 fatty acid, reduced hot flash frequency relative to placebo.
Mila for Dogs
Many dog owners use Mila on their pets for dry skin, healthy coat and joint inflammation. eHow suggests ½ teaspoon for every 5 pounds of body weight mixed with their food along with plenty of water. Always start with a small amount of Mila to let your pet get accustomed to the additional fiber.
This photo is of Buddy, our 14-year-old Husky, who has trouble with the joints in his back legs. We starting feeding Buddy Mila with his food when we read the research below. While nothing can cure his condition, Buddy is definitely more mobile since he’s been eating Mila.
Studies published in the January 2010 and March 2010 issues of the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association (JAVMA), report the possible benefits of feeding foods high in omega-3 fatty acid concentrations to dogs with osteoarthritis. Dogs that were fed the foods experienced less pain associated with the disease and greater mobility.
Developing Research
January 2012
Research from the University of London suggests that omega-3 fatty acids have the potential to protect nerves from injury and help them to regenerate.
April 2012.
Omega-3 fatty acids may help to reduce the physical harm caused by smoking, according to a new study presented April 20th at the World Congress of Cardiology. The study, carried out in Greece, assessed the effect of four-week oral treatment with 2 g/day of omega-3 fatty acids on the arterial wall properties of cigarette smokers. The results showed that short-term treatment with omega-3 fatty acids improves arterial stiffness and moderates the acute smoking-induced impairment of vascular elastic properties in smokers.
“These findings suggest that omega-3 fatty acids inhibit the detrimental effects of smoking on arterial function, which is an independent prognostic marker of cardiovascular risk,”
Dr. Gerasimos Siasos,
University of Athens Medical School
